Ancient Cham tower in Hue sets world record

Phu Dien Tower in Thua Thien-Hue Province was named “the world’s first excavated and preserved historic brick Cham tower deep below coastal sand dunes” by World Data Union on Monday.

Constructed by the Cham folks to worship Hindu gods, the ruined tower is among the earliest remaining Cham brick buildings in central Vietnam, courting again to across the eighth century.

In 2001, a gaggle of diggers mining titanium ore in Phu Dien Commune instantly found an historic brick constructing with distinctive structure deep inside the coastal sand dunes.

Native authorities then ordered the excavation of the traditional tower.

On the time it was buried in 5 to seven meters of sand.

In 2001, the Ministry of Tradition, Sports activities and Tourism acknowledged the tower as a national relic.
